Old News Articles – Have you ever wondered how many little or big snippets of news about your ancestors might be hidden away in the archives ? Here at Old British News I am chasing the big stories and the tiny one’s for family historians, writers, researchers and producers.

From major crime features, to those minor misdemeanours. Sports events, births, marriages, bankruptcies, divorce and of course deaths. Court hearings, workhouse reports, theatre news, royal occasions, disasters – even the weather. If it happened it was reported and printed, sometimes in considerable detail or maybe just in brief. But importantly for us, it was recorded, printed and today available to bring alive again adding colour and and certain realism to your historic research.

Click my ‘Samples‘ page to see examples of available archive.

If you would like me to do a search for you, I need some basic brief but crucial detail:

  • Names of those you are looking for
  • The type of event (a murder, a coroners report, a council story)
  • When you thought it was in the news (a year will do)
  • Where did it take place?

I charge for the search and supply of the news items only if you decide that you want the material. I only accept payment by PayPal. I will send you my PayPal account email address when we agree. My fees are not high, usually cover the costs involved and my time. The newspaper copies are normally scanned and sent to you as soon as possible in PDF format by email. You will need a PDF reader installed to access the material – I recommend the Adobe Reader here.

If you are looking for a certain item of news from the 1800′s to 1950 please contact: admin@oldbritishnews.com.

Incidentally, on this website I have published my Historic Serious Crime and Victim Index. This a relatively small collection of names of those involved in serious criminal activity from about 1800 to about 1930. It might be worth having a look to see if you recognise anyone. The list is constantly being added to as more stories come to light. You probably won’t find what you are looking for, but its worth a check.
